Objective To develop a New Nurse Leaders’ Job Readiness Scale based on the competency quality model, and to test its reliability and validity. Methods Based on the conceptual framework of competency quality model,we employed the literature review method, brainstorming method,on-site observation method,semi-structured in-depth interview method, and expert consultation method to construct the first draft of the scale. 189 new nurse leaders in Wuhan tertiary hospitals were surveyed from May 2019 to August 2021 to test the reliability and validity of the scale. Results The scale contained 4 primary indicators,6 secondary indicators and 29 entries. 6 common factors were extracted by exploratory factor analysis, which explained 86.90% of the total variables. The content validity index of the scale was 0.974,and the content validity index of each entry ranged from 0.712 to 1.000. The Cronbach’s α coefficient of the scale was 0.965,and the Cronbach’s α coefficient of the 6 factors ranged from 0.808 to 0.971,with a split-half reliability of 0.827 and a retest reliability of 0.749. Conclusion The reliability and validity of the New Nurse Leaders’ Job Readiness Scale are good, and it can provide the guidance for new nurse leaders to prepare for their job.
